Associated Press 04/01/2008LOS ANGELESAn elderly man
died in a South Los Angeles house fire but a barking dog woke his
brother and sister-in-law in time to escape the flames. Fire
spokesman Brian Humphrey says 42 firefighters put out the Monday
night blaze in about 20 minutes. A 72-year-old man, whose name hasn't
been released by the coroner, was found in a front bedroom of the
home. He died shortly after arrival at Centinela Hospital Medical
Center in Inglewood. Humphrey says the man's brother and sister-in-law
were asleep in a rear bedroom, but they were awakened by their dog's
incessant barking. The couple and their dog weren't hurt. Damage is
estimated at $400,000. |
