LCKC_2013_JUNE Our annual shows are upon us! We will be discussing final details at the upcoming meeting on Tuesday, so please try to attend. The breed/obedience/rally shows are Friday Sunday, June 28th 30th. The shows are at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale , and we will need help with setup on Thursday, June 27th. You can pick up your show day parking passes when you come help with setup. The agility trials are Saturday Monday, July 20th 22nd.The trials will require help with setup at the soccer field. We will hold ring practices every Sunday at 1pm at the fairgrounds until our show weekend. Everyone is welcome to come out and practice conformation, obedience, and/or rally with us. Just a reminder, LCKC will be participating inWoofstock on Saturday, August 10th and the Farm Store Pet Fair on Saturday, September 28th. April-May2013 I don't think I officially welcomed new member Marilyn Backman n my previous President's Corner. Marilyn lives in Arcata with her Shelties and is current President of HumDOG. We have started having ring practices at the fairgrounds in Ferndale in preparation for the upcoming breed/obedience/rally shows. We will hold the next one on May 19th and then every Sunday in June up until our shows which are June 28-30th. We will be doing a lot of planning for the breed/obedience shows and the agility trials at the next two meetings. Your participation will be appreciated. I have received invitations to bothWoofstock and the Farm Store Pet Fair. Woofstock will be Saturday, August 10th and the Pet Fair will be Saturday, September 28th. LCKC usually attends both, and we will be making those decisions at the next meeting. We always look forward to club members helping out at the booth. See you on the 21st at the Adorni Center. March Newsletter 2013 The April 16th Meeting will be at The Meadows. Here are the directions, if you don't have access to Google Maps. Address is 2570 Hubbard Lane Here are directions to my place. Location is the Club House in THE MEADOWS, 2520-90 HUBBARD LANE, EUREKA Landmarks: Myrtle Avenue Market, Myrtle Avenue Pet Store and Veterinary Hospital Traveling East and North on Myrtle Avenue, Bear right onto Hubbard Lane. Hubbard Lane is one way for one block, this is the only way in ..First drive on right is private dwelling; second right is Countryside Apts, THIRD right is The Meadows. You may park right by the Club House. More parking on Hubbard Lane or in the Myrtle Market lot across the street. Still more parking at the Veterinary Hospital across the street. After entering the Meadows Apartment complex, 75-100 ft ahead on the right is a free standing one story building. That is the Club House. Entrance is on the side of building closest to adjacent apartment buildings.Three notes:.1. If you get to Myrtle Avenue Market, you have gone too far, hang a quick right, proceed through the market parking lot and into The Meadows 2. If you park in the Meadows complex, please stay on main driveway. There are usually six or seven spots right next to the Club House. 3. If you enter Hubbard Lane from Harris Street, you must drive to the stoplight at Hubbard and Myrtle, turn left, and turn left at the first opportunity (on to Hubbard Lane - again!) on a one way street for one block LCKC_Feb_2013 Our next LCKC meeting is fast approaching. Please note that we are no longer meeting in Ferndale. Chris Irvin has graciously offered her home while we look for a permanent place to hold the "even month" meetings. Directions to Chris's house are elsewhere in this newsletter and are also listed on the LCKC website. Brandy Nelson is working hard to get the breed show Premium List together for submission to AKC. We must list all of our trophy sponsors in the Premium List, so if you are planning to sponsor a breed or group trophy, we need a commitment very soon. We need everyone's help to fill the sponsorships. Please contact Deb St. Myers if you can help. The deadline for applying for a booth at HumDOG's Dog Expo is also approaching. We like to display as many AKC breeds as possible, so please send in your applications. Dog Expo is always well attended by the local public, so it is a great way to promote your breed and also to promote responsible dog ownership. Expo will be held on Sunday, March 11th, and LCKC will be helping with the Parade of Breeds, but you must apply for a booth to participate in the Parade. January 2013 HumDOGs Dog Expo will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Redwood Acres. If you have participated in the past, you should havereceived an invitation to apply for booth space. Sandra will be accepting the applications and I will be organizing the Parade ofBreeds. We would like to include as many breeds as possible. November 2012 Lost Coast Kennel Club bids a fond Farewell to Al and Irene Driver. Al and Irene joined LCKC a few years ago after moving from Ohio, bringing their vast experience in dogs with them and quickly becoming an integral part of our club. Al has erved as club Vice President this past year and also was the 2012 Show Chair. Irene was Hospitality Chair. Plans for 2013 included them reprising their roles for the show, and Al was slated to move into the club President position as well. September 2012 The 2012 Farm Store Pet Fair is Saturday, September 22nd. LCKC will have a booth there promoting responsible dog ownership. This is our AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day activity, and AKC has sent us a kit with all kinds of materials to help educate and encourage dog owners. Come spend some time at the Pet Fair and help out in the booth if you can! Dogs welcome! The Splash Dogs will be back, too!
